Leland, Michigan, better known as Fishtown, is a historic fishing village located in the northwest corner of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. Visitors to this charming town are given a glimpse into Michigan’s rich commercial fishing past.
Recently, during my adventures, I traveled to Leland to grab a bite to eat and experience what this quaint town has to offer. Here are my favorite things to see and do when visiting Leland, Michigan:
The Cove
I couldn’t recommend visiting a historic fishing town without suggesting some authentic cuisine. That’s why I highly recommend stopping at The Cove restaurant. Located at the entrance of Fishtown, The Cove offers patrons stunning views of the harbor along with its renowned dishes. I highly recommend trying their whitefish.

You can’t visit Leland without exploring the harbor, commonly referred to as Fishtown. This historic village is filled with tiny shops offering unique knick-knacks and delicious ice cream to cool off even the hottest summer days.

Not far from Leland lie North and South Manitou Islands. While I haven’t visited these islands yet, they’re high on my to-do list. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick day trip or an extended camping stay, both islands feature plenty of activities for any adventure seeker. Conveniently, you can reach these islands via a ferry that departs from Fishtown.
